We got to choose our subject combinations last friday,
and started on mass lectures this week.
I chose the subjects that I have aimed for quite some time.
Chinese language & literature, chinese history and china studies for my 3 H2.
I know this sounds cheena, and no one around me actually choose language major.
Then I started to worry whether or not they will open up a class for this combination.
Yesterday, I went for chinese lit lecture.
So just for that subject, I need to buy 8 books. Zzz.
The whole lecture was kinda boring, until I heard THAT word.
"LUN YU"
Ok I know its not the one that I am thinking. xD
The theory part sounds ok, but the exam is totally crazy!
We have to sit for 2 papers, 3 hours each. Ha ha ha. @.@
As for today, I went for the history and china studies lectures,
I was kinda relieve to see quite a number of people there.
But wait.
One group of china peeps..
Oh another..
And another..
I am the only singaporean there.
OH SHIT.
I mean, I know there will be lots of china students,
but I didnt expect to be the WHOLE lot.
Not even a single soul of singaporean, except for me.
And when I said china students, I meant REAL china students.
Out of the 21 students in history class,
two of them are singapore citizens, but they are also from china.
As for the rest, they are all international students.
HOLY MAMA.
I knew it by then that I couldnt be possibly taking up this subject combination anymore.
Like, come on lah! You expect me to compete against one whole lot of China peeps?!
International students somemore?! Oh my goodness.
Plus they knew one another already,
which is like, I am in a very very super duper awkward position in this class.
It was worse when the teacher asked us to introduce ourselves.
They were all like, Hi! I am ____. I came from 新疆/四川 etc.
I was sitting right at the back in a corner, so I was the last one to introduce.
我叫柯昀 我是新加坡人 OMG.
I swear I looked dumb at that time. Zzz.
Then it was china studies lesson.
The whole lot moved together to the next room.
So it is clear enough that those people will be in the same class as me. Gosh.
Not only that, the subjects alone are killer too.
Chinese history seems to be interesting, but when the teacher goes on and talk about it,
like "I suppose you know this and that.." and the whole class will go "yah"
except for the pathetic me, which is like, "who the hell is that? Or WHAT?".
And when the teachers asked questions, they knew just the answers to it, then again, I will be like, "Huh?!"
Ok, so they knew all these because they are from that country and learnt it before in primary or secondary school.
I knew I couldnt cope with this subject since everyone are so far ahead of me already.
Next was China studies. It looks like Social Studies in chinese.
That seems cool, but I cant imagine myself doing inference in chinese. Lol.
Then there's the thousands word essay that we had to prepare for a few months.
Using a few months to write that essay? Scary enough. >.<
The teached ended his talk with, "Oh well, frankly speaking, this subject is not easy to score.
We are doing this for the 3rd year, and in the first batch,
quite a number failed, and only one scored a B. No A.
All the As are given to Hwa chong etc.
So I want everyone to consider this subject carefully. "
Then I started to think.
China studies and chinese history. Can I really make it?
What about my general paper?
If I am touching on chinese for most of the time?
Conclusion?
RUN!!!
After all the classes ended...
CHIONG AR!!!
To the staff room and look for the teacher in charge to change my subject combination.
Lucky enough, there's one student who appeal out or couldnt take the subjects,
so there's still one vacancy left for that subject combi class that I want to appeal in. Whew. :D
So my new subject subject combination is now chinese lit, history (eng), and econs.
I know I know I know. Like econs?!
It's crazy too.
But I asked myself, both subject combination are crazy.
In fact, coming into JC is already crazy enough, at least for me.
But what other choices do I have?
I should be in CMC now but my parents rejected.
So I went to look into other pros and cons.
The environment that I want.
The people that I want in my class.
I dont care if my subject combinations are weird or whatsoever,
I just need to go into nanyang tech uni and take up the media course, and I just need chinese lit.
So for the rest, I shall just stay put with english,
and not to risk my own future by taking chinese history and china studies.
GP, PW, CLL, HI, EN, MH
Here I come!!! :D
